Don Bertram has been painting with sick and/or terminal children at the Texas Children's Hospital for years and calls his program Celebrate Imagination.  Since its inception, this free program has given ill children an escape from the intimidating, frightening, and too often painful hospital environment and allows them a chance to play with colors without fear of ridicule or judgement.  And when he's not inspiring the kids, Don is supporting them by donating 50% of all the proceeds from his art sales back to the hospital to fund research and care.  If you're not inspired you should check your pulse.

But even if you removed that inspirational story, Don's artwork is just downright fun. This volume not only collects many of Don's favorite paintings, but it also features the perfectly paired writing of his twin brother Ron.  Ron breathes new life into the already animated images, providing perfectly quirky prose and personality to each character.  There is a child-like sense of wonder and exploration that give the project its life.

This would make a fantastic gift for lovers of folk art, for children, for parents...for anyone who loves or could simply use a good smile.  And as with all of the Bertrams' projects, 50% of all the proceeds go STRAIGHT back to the Children's hospital.
